Why Engineering Sucks!

Its been a long time since i have written a post on this blog and I hope this post will reach out to all aspiring engineers preparing to get into good colleges and get good jobs.

THE main problem with engineering is not the competition but the quality of education. a person studies for 8 hours a day and ultimately gets into a good college and some weird course or specialization which people haven't heard of...So what next??...If people think that colleges are actually like those in american pie movies then they are mistaken. However the best thing about other colleges is the worst thing about engineering colleges..GIRLS..on an average a budding engineer will tend to find 1 girl out of 58 guys..HOW AMUSING!!.. Many Engineers turn out gay therefore(just joking). It is a myth that engineers earn the most in India today and get the best job placements(leave alone IITIANS). On an average an electrical engineer earns about 5000 rupees per month and some even work without any stipend. This is just because of the huge quantity and lack of quality. If you are not a good engineer then you are like everyone else, and that's the worst part about engineering!

My First Smoke!

A night never to forget,
Full of forgotten regrets,
When my mind could not find peace,
Neither was my body at ease,
The rain was falling down through the dark air,
Bringing back memories full of darkness and despair,
All I wanted was someone who did care,
A stranger crossed me, humming a lullaby that made me weak,
His face hidden with smoke, Lighted with fire and maybe some hope
He handed me his life, and told me to take it in
At first I stumbled, but then the pleasure started to creep in
a night of darkness turned into a beautiful dream,
I smiled, I laughed, I screamed…
Yes, the pain was healing,
The pain that had broken me apart!
My first smoke, ooh how well I remember
It’s been a magical year, never did I see a falling tear,
People ask me, Do u think what you are doing is clever?
And my reply to them is-“I don’t know about that, but no one lives forever”

5 Things to do in a BORING class

So we've all had those days in class when it seems like nothing can keep your attention for long. Time is creeping by and your tempted to just fall asleep. Or maybe you do fall asleep then wake up to realize only five minutes have passed.

My question is, on these boring days, what do you do

I get to thinking. What is the point in going to class if we don't make the best of the time we are there? How many times do you wake up and go to class just to half ass pay attention? Do you feel like you have to because thats what you are trying to achieve, an education?

Lately I've been trying to make sure that all the time I've spent in class I use to the best of my ability. Even if I take all the notes I may add little stars for things to look at later.

Here are a few things I do in class to pass time and maybe you guys can try it:-

1) Say something funny or something that someone else will make funny like in football someone has to set the goal up and then someone else gets the goal.

2) When the class is silent, bang your book on the desk

3) When you have a 2000 word essay due, hand in two pictures related to the topic. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, right?

4) Whenever the teacher speaks to you, act like you're terrified of him/her and go run & hide in the corner or under your desk.

 5) Address the teacher as "your honor".
(MY FAVORITE)

Why do people say -"YOU HAVE CHANGED!"

Why live to please others? I mean, it’s your life. If you aren’t happy with it, what’s the use in living?.
Lately some people have said this to me. people I haven't seen in 3-4 years? many things have happened since then. I've went through rough times, grown older, and i think I've developed character, as they say. I know that sounds cliche, but really, looking back on this time, I've grown a lot and changed for better and for worse I guess.

when people say "you've changed" I don't know how to feel about it. a part of me is saddened thinking about all of the hard times I went through that has shaped me like this, and a part of me feels older and weary and unable to connect with this person. lately I've been hanging out with people, which i feel more comfortable with but there are some with whom I feel hard to connect with. i think they are great people, but I feel like life hasn't broken them in yet? (this is from a quote: life is breaking me in, but not breaking me), and i feel like in many ways they are still very sheltered . I know I am sheltered compared to older people as well.

Sometimes poeple think that the best a person can do is to be on the safer side and do what others are doing. In my case waking up at 6 in the morning, gong to school and study like any other teenager. Their must be a routine which should be followed and if not, people will think you have changed. They dont realise that people go through different experiences and learn through them differently. I do preach what I follow, though I dont have many followers just a pack of few good friends. These people don't understand that you are not like them. That you're different. That, somehow, you managed to retain one ounce of originality in this cookie cutter day and age and don't think exactly like they do.

But of course, "different" is now a bad word, isn't it?

I'm writing this because I think CHANGE is always for the better, maybe I'm the one ahead of my age or maybe behind but what I feel is that their should never be rules and regulations in life. Their should never be a routine, A time table in life, because every person knows that if he has taken decisions he should be ready to face the consequences.

It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

THE "HALL EFFECT"

It is not the famous "hall effect" of physics that we are going to talk about. We are going to talk about how the examination day itself effects you examination performance. So you are thinking ,"what the hell examination hall has to do with our JEE exams?",well then to answer you , it can make you spoil your paper or it can help to accelerate your efficiency and hence your performance.
Last few weeks and ofcourse the examination day and the night before has a determining effect on your JEE performance. This analysis focusses upon various factors that effect your performance on the examination day.Read the given description carefully ,it contains 7 blunders which one commits on the examination day, try to spot them.

Its the day of your exam you wake up in the morning and reach for your notes to revise a few points quickly. There is lot of activity seen at your home , your parents are looking as much corncerned as you .You can very well hear your heart beating and you are in a very serious and nononsense mood.Your are keeping a note of your examination time .Now you are ready and your mother comes and puts a 'teekaa' on your forehead , she says "son this is a very decisive day of your life may god help you", your touch the feet of your parents......"Now my brave soldier you are ready for the fight" the situation implies.
You pick up your conveyance and start to move towards the examination hall.In the way you are worried about your performance ,"How will the paper be?","Will i be able to solve adequate problems","i could have studied more..","Its THE EXAM of my life...what if i am not able to do up to the mark?"..all these are coming to your mind.
Finally , from a distance you are able to see your "battle field", you can see the board of the examination centre "BNSD Vidya Niketan", your pulse rate accelerates.Outside the centre you see lots of parent and aspirants moving here and there(total brownian motion!!),some are moving inside , some coming out , some touching the feet of there parents and parents wishing them best of luck.Everybody has his own "Astra" in there hands. There is this guy in blue jeans , he is sitting and looking at his notes ,you are inspired and you also start thinking about looking at few formulas.Meanwhile you see Rajesh , who is there in your coaching , you start to talk with him.
There are lots of guys ,crowding that area. You go there and find that room allocation is displayed , your room number is 7A.You enter the room, there are few guys in the room. You search for your seat and then do a quick inspections of it to see whether everything is fine or not.Now you sit down and try to make yourself comfortable.
After a while two serious looking invigilators come into the room , one is holding answersheets and other is holding a brown packet that contains your question paper.Your heartbeat again increased due to the realization that the papers have finally arrived. You stare at the packet , wondering what type of paper might be inside?.You are given the answer sheet with the instruction to write your name on it.
Finally , you hear the grand bell ring, with every ring you get a very strange feeling in your heart and stomach.Invigilator starts to distribute the paper and you are waiting for your turn to get it.You strart attempting the paper. You looked at the seat where Swami(an intelligent boy of your coaching) is sitting , you saw that he has already started attempting the paper while you are just trying to find out which question to solve. Now you have finally started attempting the paper.Time passes and finally ends.
After submitting your paper you rush quickly for your pencil box and writing board. You have next paper after a break of 1.5 hours. As you move out of the room you see a lot of commotion. You see guys discussing about the paper, you overhear there talks..."yaar paper was easy compared to last year ....cutoff will be a little higher" , "hey what was the correct answer of that Uranium 238 problem...i think it was option c..what do you say","most of the questions in maths came from XYZ's book"etc. etc..You are also very anxious to know how Swami and Rajesh performed in the paper so you go and discuss the paper.
After discussing the paper for about fifteen minutes you come back and have some snacks while you plan to revise a few points for the paper after an hour. You revised till it was time for your next paper. You proceed towards your exam room once again.....
We gave this long discription to bring you closer to the feelings and activities of your examination day. There are seven blunders committed by "you" in the above given passage.click on the button below to see those regions.

The first center from where you start getting pressure is your own family.Dont let the pressure of expectation from your people, build upon you .If you will be treated as a brave soldier going for his fight then there will be a lots of pressure upon you.Ask your parents (while fully caring for there but natural feelings) not to make you feel as if you are going some very big event because that makes you conscious and puts a lots of pressure on you , since they have love and care for you they will surely understand it.Also ask them clearly , not to ask you "how are your papers going?","How did you perform" etc. till all the papers are finished.

COMMANDMENT#1 MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT PICK UP PRESSURE FROM YOU HOME

Dont bother yourself with things that you can not control ,like,"How will the paper be?","Will i be able to solve the problems?".Remember , you dont have infinite source of energy ,lets say you have 100 units of useful mental energy on the day of your examination ,now if you worry about things you have the least control you loose say 20 units so you have just 80 units left for the paper .The other guy with same mental capacity as you and who stays away from these useless thinking will have 100 units for his paper , dont you think he will perform better.

COMMANDMENT#2 YOUR USEFUL MENTAL ENERGY IS FINITE , SO CONSERVE IT!

The third centre of pressure is when you reach the examination centre .You should try not to observe other people too much, try not to talk to your friends, sounds uncourteous!, but still dont talk. The reason for this is that at that time you are in a "unstable state" ,even a little "perturbation" can cost your performance,so policy of isolation is best for you.

COMMANDMENT#3 KEEP YOURSELF IN A WATERTIGHT COMPARTMENT.

The fourth time where you get useless pressure is on the arrival of the invigilators .Dont look at them or the there activities.Close you eyes and relax. We advice you to rehearse all these events much before the exam day ,in your mind ,that will help in making you feel easy on the exam day.

COMMANDMENT#4 REHEARSE EXAM DAY EVENTS IN YOUR MIND BEFORE THE EXAM DAY.

Once paper is given to you,you should concentrate on the paper.Dont try to look what others are doing bacause 99% of times you will harm yourself by looking here and there.

COMMANDMENT#5 CONCENTRATE ON THE PAPER.

We can bet anything on this !!.You will find at least one guy if not many , who will claim that "paper was easy...cutoff will be high" or "xyz question came ditto from pqr's book","i could solve only 70 out of 90 ,will it be sufficient".Actually most of the guys who say these types of thing have low confidence on there performance and hence to get a momentary "high" by speaking these type of thing , they are only attraction gatherers.Since you dont know this dirty game of these imposters you start to believe them and put yourself on pressure once again. If there is a paper to follow you performance will surely depreciate.

COMMANDEMENT#6 DONT LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS ARE TALKING AFTER THE EXAMS...KEEP YOUR EARS CLOSED ..IF NEED BE USE A EARPLUG!

If you get break between two papers you should not waste it by discussing the previous paper , you should take time out to rest for a while.

COMMANDEMENT#7 DONT DISCUSS THE PAPER IF YOUR EXAMS ARE STILL ON ,IF POSSIBLE TRY TO REST IN THE BREAK.

Life is A BITCH..Be a DOG!

Life is a series of linear events. A chain of choices about those events, leading to other events. Never ending cycles of pain and pleasure for learning and growth. When the sun shines, it shines on everyone. When it rains, it rains on all. Every single person will experience at some point during their lifetime: tragedy, failure, depression and hopelessness. They will also experience: joy, happiness, success and unconditional love. We live in a world of duality. There is a reason for it
Some people master the rollercoaster ride life offers them, and some don't. Why? It is an easy question to answer. The successful ones believe in themselves and their ability to win. While the others feel overwhelmed by life's ambivalences. They do so because their fearful thoughts keep them frozen in indecision, unable to make progress, due to fear of failure. If they only knew that "they were not their thoughts" improvement would be certain.
SO FUCKING TRUE!!
The reasons for feeling negative about yourself are numerous. Growing up in a dysfunctional family. The criticism of inexperienced teachers. Comparing yourself to, and competing with, others. Holding unrealistic expectations of performance and many more. The reasons don't matter, they're history. What matters is now. This present moment. What do you do now to change your life.

Here are some ways to tackle life and make it your bitch:-

1. Start a business

My dad, who has been self-employed almost all his life, used to tell me that “Only jerks work for jerks.” Working for someone else puts you at their mercy and subjects you to their whims — and often their poor management skills. Not only that, but the profit of your labor goes into their pockets.
Starting a business puts you in control of your work life, and your money. It’s hard — small businesses fail every day. But the rewards of even a failed venture can far outweigh the risk. Just knowing that your failure was the result of your own choices — instead of a decision made at a corporate office a thousand miles away — can be liberating.

2. Organize a group

What makes you passionate? Chances are, being around other people who are passionate about the same thing would make you even more passionate about it. Often the only thing keeping you and them from coming together is that nobody’s put out a sign saying “Come and talk!” Getting a group going is a tremendous challenge, and very often the personality of the founder leaves a tremendous mark on the group as a whole. Seeing a group grow and take off can be tremendously awarding — but even failing can teach you important things about leadership.

3. Volunteer

I don’t mean spend Thanksgiving at a soup kitchen, though that can often be challenging enough. What I mean, though, is to make a long-term investment in your community by joining school committees, donating three hours a week in a shelter, hosting a monthly read-along at the library, tutoring at-risk children after school, teaching adult literacy classes at a local prison, or any of a million ways to play a role in the lives of people who need you. Perhaps the most pressing need in our society is for people to take an interest in and engage with their communities.

4. Take an active role in your children’s’ activities

Pick one thing your child does and commit yourself to it. Coach their team, become a Brownie leader, spend a weekend day in the workshop with them, buy a bike and ride along with them — make their passions your own. Don’t crowd them — especially if you have teenagers — but show them that you value something they do by giving them your time and interest.

5. Start a family

I don’t mean have kids. That can be all too easy! Make the decision to have a family, which means to give of yourself fully to another person or several people. Risk being vulnerable by sharing your fears, quirks, and failures with someone else; you might find it makes you stronger than ever before.
This transcends marriage and parenthood. There are lots of people who can’t marry because the law prevents it. There are people who can’t have children. These are not the essential ingredients of family. The essential ingredients are love, mutual respect, trust, and open giving. Find (or make) someone you can share that with.
